Meet Mila Hembree-Rey

Milla Hembree-Bey

Hi, my name is Milla Hembree-Bey and I'm 13 years old. In my free time I take swim classes, and art classes at ArtHaus5. I also love to volunteer for ArtHaus5 in many of their camps they have throughout the year – mostly summer. It’s really fun to take the knowledge I’ve learned from my instructors and pass it on to the newer or younger students. It’s very satisfying.

 I've always enjoyed illustration and life drawing but it wasn't until I was 11 years old that I became more invested into my hobby. That’s when I began taking classes at ArtHau5 art studio. It was a little over 2 years ago and since then my instructors and peers have helped me grow tremendously as an artist. I’ve greatly improved my skill set on concepts I was having lots of trouble with. I have to say that I’m so inspired and motivated by all these new friends but, (laugh if you will) I’m also inspired by my family.

When I draw, I’m taken in by the world around me. I carry my sketch book with me most places and will draw everything I see whether on an airplane or at the beach, it doesn’t matter. It’s exciting to document where I’ve been in my own way of seeing it. Sometimes I even come up with things in my head and I have to put that on paper as well. I guess you could say that art is, at least at the moment, who I am in this ever changing world I’m in!

I haven’t yet figured out what I want to do after I’m grown but, I absolutely plan to have art in my life as a side job or hobby. Taking commissions in addition to a more stable career seems to make sense to me. I will always draw and create things. It's part of who I am!
