classes for kids ages 8 - 17!
By learning how to use different weights of graphite pencils, students will acquire the skills to achieve realism in different subjects. Students also learn how to create depth through the use of color, using different mediums such as chalk pastel, charcoal and colored pencils. The class draws it’s subject matter from life or from reference photos. Students learn how to train their eyes to draw what is around them, such as features of a face or portraiture or how a shadow gradates from the side of a tree trunk to the other side giving it it’s round shape appearance.
ALL students must be assessed prior to enrolling into Life Drawing. Even though we all 3 levels, these are all considered higher level classes. Students needs to be assessed to make sure they are properly placed in a class that they will enjoy and excel at their craft.
Life Drawing is broken up into three levels:
Life Drawing I – Beginning lessons on how to properly use graphite pencils for shading and achieving realism. The student will also learn how to render an object for the correct perspective or form. In addition will learn where light is best used for shading in a drawing. Other mediums are used after graphite is mastered such as, chalk pastel, colored pencils and watercolor.
Life Drawing II – Students will be introduced to live (clothed) models and still life exercises such as contour or blind contour drawing in a timed setting. They will have group projects as well choosing many of their own projects throughout the year and will work independently in class while receiving instruction as needed.
Life Drawing III – As an advanced student, the expectations of the work are higher than the other levels and the student will also be introduced to Adobe Photoshop for further manipulation to their work.
*Note* Students in Life Drawing III must have access to the Adobe Photoshop App with the current updates.
