Art Beyond the Canvas: 3D Mixed Media
classes for kids ages 8+
3D Mixed Media is an engaging, 1.5-hour weekly art class where students will discover the limitless possibilities of combining different materials to create unique, multi-dimensional works of art. This course encourages kids to push past the flat surface and experiment with textures, layers, mixed media and 3D elements.
Each month introduces a new theme—such as seasonal celebrations, nature, or outer space—where students begin with a painted or drawn foundation and then bring it to life by adding materials like beads, yarn, fabric, foil, clay, or natural textures. A Christmas tree might sparkle with real ornaments, a coral reef might be built with shells and sand, and an animal portrait might have fluffy fur made from cotton.
Through this process, students will:
Learn to plan and layer materials thoughtfully to create visual depth.
Develop fine motor skills and problem-solving as they work with varied textures.
Gain confidence in combining techniques from both art and craft.
Explore creativity without limits, discovering how everyday objects can become art.
The class emphasizes creative exploration and personal expression over perfection. Students will finish each project with a unique artwork that is as fun to make as it is to display—pieces that pop off the canvas and celebrate their imagination.
